Unique Table Numbers

There are so MANY fab ideas for numbering (or lettering) your party tables, you just wouldn’t believe!  Frames of all shapes and kinds, flower arrangements, wine bottles with numbers… and here are a few of the more unique ideas I found:

First, from, check out this fun post using scrabble tiles to decorate for your wedding or party.   Who knew that a scrabble wedding theme is quite popular!

Style My Pretty has another variation of the scrabble tile table number… I love the shabby chic look of this one:

Looking for balloon decorations ideas? From Martha Stewart, check out the fun Balloon Table Numbers / Centerpieces.  Inexpensive and FUN!

Just look at this wonderfully unique table number idea from the wedding co – paper crafted numbers from pages in a book.  LOVE!!  All you need is a alphabet and number template and some books!  (your local library may have some old ones they can donate to you!)

And my FAVORITE for most unique table numbers is this fab photo of ornate mirror table numbers from Style Me Pretty.  You can find great mirrors at estate sales and even stores such as Bed, Bath and Beyond – don’t forget your 20% coupon!

Mexican Grilled Corn on the Cob with Cheese

how to grill corn on the cob

Although fresh farmed corn needs little other than salt and a bit of butter, sometimes I like to dress it up.   This recipe from was perfect – tons of flavor.  And as an added bonus, it taught me how to grill corn on the cob without husks.  Once grilled, you could stop right there and then and eat it.  Or, as a delicious change of pace, spread the ears with a zippy sauce made from mayonnaise, chili powder, and lime zest.  Then give it a roll in some cheese (Cotija, ricotta salata or feta). Finish with a little hit of kosher salt!

Why grill corn versus boiling?  Simple – the high heat brings out the natural sugars of the corn and intensifies them. Yum!!

Key To Success:  The first time you make these, watch them carefully as they grill.  You want some charred spot on the ear of corn; not the entire cob burned.

Thanks to for the beautiful picture.  Although my corn looked like that when I made – my picture of the corn didn’t:(

Vegas Theme Party

My 40th  birthday is coming up, and I conveniently live in Las Vegas, so planning a FABulous 40th birthday getaway weekend for my friends is easy-peasy.  They all come TO me, and we enjoy the Vegas strip!  But, I realize not everyone is so lucky to live in a destination-location.  SO, how about a Vegas THEME party post?

First, from the Hostess blog, check out this INCREDIBLE Vegas themed party.  So many great ideas!! Make sure your read the post in detail because it is bursting with creative ideas (many which can be done EASILY with a computer and printer).  Also fab playing card cookies that even I could make!  At the end of her post she lists her sources such as – a great source for affordable party supplies.

Check out this quick (4 minute) video from HGTV about hosting a grand, Bellagio party theme.  Granted, the budget for throwing this type of party is beyond most of us (and then some) – but towards the end the creative and relatively inexpensive way to make glass decorations is *fabulous*.

The next two photos are incredible themed Las Vegas Cakes.  If you want LOTS of inspiration, go to and type in “Vegas Cakes”.  Then – if you see one (or a few) that you’d like at your party, print out a picture(s) and take it to your bakery! From Musings from Cakeland, check out the wonderful Vegas theme birthday cake:

And another fab cake from My Sweethearts Bakery:

Cute, cute dice favor boxes – DIY – from Bells, Bouquets, and Galveston Bay! Inexpensive and easy to replicate.

And last, but not least, we have some super fun, super yummy Las Vegas cookies for sale in the Diva Entertains shop.  Perfect for favors… or desserts!

And if you are up for a fun challenge (with fab results), check out the tutorial from Sweet Sugar Belle for STAR WARS cookies…  these aren’t exactly the definition of super-heroes, but I think they fit the theme too!  These use common, inexpensive cookie cutters found at most craft or baking stores.  Even if you aren’t up to attempting these, it is worth reading the post just to soak in some of the creativity!

I’m ready for a HERO party, aren’t you??

Roasted Tomato Cheese Tart

As soon as summer tomatoes grace nearby farmer markets or our own backyard, we serve them at every meal.  This scrumptious Tomato Cheese Tart recipe, and the mouth watering pictures, are from my dear friend Lizzy at That Skinny Chick Can Bake Blog.

Lizzy and I are both ‘from scratch’ bakers.  But if time is short, using refrigerated pie crusts (from the diary section of your supermarket), will still produce a gorgeous and delicious tomato tart!
