Fab Friday – Free PARIS Party Printables

This week, we have two FAB “generic” Paris-themed designs for you that can be used as favor tags OR birthday cupcake toppers.

These free printable tags are 2 inches round, and come 6 each on a sheet.  The download is in a PDF format file.  Just download, print, and then cut.  (We recommend a circle punch, like THIS ONE, but scissors work too!  Punches are low cost and once you have one you’ll find zillions of reasons to use it).

You can punch a hole and add tags to your a gift or favors with string or ribbon… or use the design as a cupcake topper.  If you decide to print them on STICKER paper, these will make great seals for favor bags or boxes too!

Dinosaur Theme Birthday Parties

I don’t know ANY little boy who doesn’t dream about dinosaurs at some point.  Dream about, talk about, read books about… you get the idea.  Dinosaurs are just one of those serious obsessions for the 10 and under male crowd.  (And occasionally the 10 and up crowd too, for that matter!)

So, for all the mommies out there who need some help with the next Dinosaur Birthday party, this post is for YOU!

First, from the See Kate Sew, check out the photos from her son’s 1st birthday party.  We can’t all sew like Kate, but we COULD create a party with some of these fabulous ideas…and there is a link to the wonderful “RAWR” poster in blue -grey or orange-blue !

From the Hostess blog, check out all the fab photos, AND the ideas and party detail links at the bottom of the post.  Rawr Your World… rocks mine!

Farm Parties – for kids of all ages!

Ok, most farm parties are for kids, BUT some of the fabulous party ideas I’ll be showing today COULD be used for adult birthday parties, or even rustic wedding or baby showers!  I’m telling you, these themed parties are getting more and more amazing all the time!

First up, from Aesthetic Nest, a modern farm birthday party that is simply stunning!  With fall and apple picking just around the corner, this is a lovely inspiration!

For a more traditional farm party, check out the 1st birthday party post on the Hostess blog:

And from Kara’s Party ideas, check out this Chic Farm birthday party!  Farm and Chic aren’t usually words that you think of together, but totally pulled this one off!

Now purple is not a color you normally think of when planning a farm party, but check out this fab post from Parties by Kaci.  She totally nailed it!  Make sure you scroll to the end of the post – that’s where all the sources and instructions are!  I love all the little extra touches she did – each makes an impact.

And finally, from Amy Atlas.. a rustic vintage farm party.  You will NOT BELIEVE this party and all the extras that went into it.  And there  are some good descriptions to help with planning your OWN party.

Save the Date Ideas

“Save the Date” cards have become wildly popular in the last couple of years, and I’m always running across fun and unique ways to share the exciting date!  Here are a few of my favorites…

From Urban Style blog, a lovely engagement photos post includes (at the VERY end) a really cute idea for “Save the Date” – driftwood with the date painted on!  Shabby chic and perfect!  Create your very own unique and fun “Save the Date” photo, take it to a drugstore (Costco, etc.) and let them turn it into inexpensive postcards or note cards.

From Martha Stewart, a lovely ribbon and cardstock save the date message… I LOVE this one.  And….they actually aren’t hard to make.  A bit time-consuming, but not hard:

From My Yellow Umbrella, a great DIY post about how to make cardboard cut outs… to enhance your photos with a silhouette date!  What a fun and unique idea!

Another unique idea from Martha Stewart.. a compass inspired save-the-date.  The post includes templates and instructions!

I found a GORGEOUS idea on… a hand embroidered handkerchief!  The credit for these hankies goes to Benign Objects.  Beautiful Victorian wedding inspiration in the post!

And last but not least, a scrabble inspired save-the-date, from cameras and light:

DIY Wedding Arbors

If I had it to do over again, I think I would include an arbor as decoration for my wedding… either as a backdrop for the wedding itself or for the reception.  I have found some lovely, lovely arbor decorations and ideas lately… and today I’m sharing!

First up, from Rustic Wedding Chic, several photos of flower decorated arbors.  I absolutely adore the birch arbor with yellows, peaches, and reds – what a lovely combination!

I found the next arbor on, and while it’s not exactly a 1-2-3 how-to, it does have a great description of what was done to create this fabulous look.

And this isn’t exactly an “arbor”, but it is a FAB idea… a gorgeous petal backdrop, perfect for either wedding or reception.  The link will take you to a message board on, and as a bonus, there are some additional DIY instructions for OTHER petal projects!

On Green Wedding Shoes, I found a gorgeous photo of an arbor decorated with poms… so, so pretty!

And to help you make your OWN poms, I found this great DIY Fabric Pom Pom tutorial from

These would be great for weddings… AND other events like baby showers.  Ooohhh…I can just picture a baby shower arbor in my mind, can’t you?

Baked Brownies – Fudge Brownies from Scratch

baked brownies

When I say “Baked Brownies” I’m not really referring to the fact that these brownies are, indeed, baked.  I’m referring to the recipe from the Baked Cookbook that home bakers are talking about.  These decadent, fudge brownies from scratch are well worth your time to make – you might never buy another brownie mix!

A quick explanation of why these are *so* good: 1) The recipe calls for 11 ounces of dark chocolate; most fudge brownies only call for 8 ounces, 2) It also calls for cocoa powder (so it adds “oomph” to that chocolate flavor) and a little bit of espresso powder; the latter is known to deepen the natural flavor of chocolate without leaving a coffee taste, and 3) This recipe calls for 5 eggs; most only call for 2.  Egg yolks add incredible richness to baked goods.
