Fudge Brownie Cookies – FABULOUS!

how to make brownie cookies

I didn’t have high hopes when I first tried saw this chocolate brownie cookies recipe from Food & Wine magazine.  Mainly because when I think of brownies I think rich, fudgy and moist.  And I was concerned that a brown cookie just couldn’t pull that off.  Was I ever happy I was wrong.  These cookies are sensational!  I’m confident they will fast become a family favorite of yours!

Key to making these fab cookies is to form them when the dough is cold and pretty stiff.  If it isn’t – you’ll end up with cookies that spread and are super thin.

I have design two FREE printable holiday cards, as a gift just for you.   Click HERE to download the PDF file, which includes instructions and BOTH card designs..  Print your card of choice onto cardstock, affix your favorite holiday photo right to the card with scrapbook-safe glue “dots” (like THESE) or double-stick tape, add your message and name(s) to the inside and… voila, instant card, ready to mail! These are both 5×7 size cards, one with space for a 4×6 size photo on the front, and the other with space for a 3×5 size photo.

DIY Candles for the Holiday Season

I love candles and candle centerpieces, don’t you?  I think they can easily add a very special touch to a celebration or party… or just to my dining room table or shelves.  Today I’m sharing tutorials and ideas in case YOU love candles too!

Designing candle centerpieces doesn’t have to be difficult, as shown by this Martha Stewart idea.  You could use any festive or colorful flower to create a similar effect:

For a lovely and unique look, you might try this tutorial from Thrifty Parsonage Living – DIY Epsom Salt craft candles!  Who knew!

And for a more “white snow” look, here is another epsom salt DIY tutorial, from Hungry Hippie:

For a VERY unique look, check out the Rolled Chocolate Wafer Candle Displays, from Design, Dining and Diapers.  Sometimes it’s fun to think OUTSIDE the box, and these candles definitely qualify.  What fun ideas would you fill your vases with?

And one more… another one that is “outside the box” and lovely at the same time!  Check out this tutorial from Perlilla and Pets, using kitchen scour scrubbers to decorate Christmas candles!

Will YOU be decorating with candles this year?  We’d love to hear what you are doing with candles and decor.  Share in the comments section!

Planning for New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve planning often gets left to the last minute around here. I get all caught up in holiday parties, and menus, and buying and wrapping presents, and I forget that I might should plan a little for the NEXT week!  Thankfully this year, we are having overnight guests for New Year’s Eve and that has forced me to plan better than usual.  Here are some fun ideas I found while doing some of that planning!

First, from Martha Stewart… a gorgeous idea for your table centerpiece, using gold baubles and champagne flutes:

From Momtastic, a tutorial on how to make glitter candles.  Can’t go wrong with glitter on New Year’s Eve!

We need hats for New Year’s Eve, right?  It’s a requirement, I think!  From Cathie and Steve, check out these FAB diva style hats, and directions on how to can make party hats too!  Everything you need can be purchased inexpensively at a craft store.

From Oh Happy Day, a tutorial for designing a sequin photo booth or backdrop.  This one might take awhile, but WOW, what a fabulous backdrop for your NYE photos!

For the kids (or kids at heart), you can make some fab New Year’s Eve Poppers – check out the tutorial on HOW To Party Poppers on Make and Takes:

How will YOU be celebrating New Year’s Eve?  We’d love to hear about it!

It’s a Gingerbread House kind of day…

My kids still have a few more days of school left before their winter vacation, but we are starting to feel like we’re in “vacation” mode already.  I am letting homework slide this week, and instead we will be doing a few fun projects… like gingerbread houses.. and cookies!  Here are a few fun ideas and ways YOU can do the same!

First, a traditional DIY gingerbread house, from Taste of Home:

And another excellent series of DIY houses with LOTS of helpful Gingerbread House Decorating tips, from bon appetite:  Make sure you scroll down, once you click through, for all the information, links and photos!

Don’t want to bake, but still want your kids to be able to make a gingerbread house craft?  Check out this one from Inner Child Fun, a PRINTABLE (non edible) version… love this!

From, a very cool Geodesic Dome gingerbread house.  There is a video you can watch to learn how to make THIS masterpiece:
