Theme Thursday – Dr. Suess Parties

It’s time for another Theme Thursday, and this week we are getting bright and colorful and fun with Dr. Suess!  There are so many directions one could go with this one, and for a variety of ages too!

From Design Addict Mom, an incredible 1st Dr. Seuss birthday party theme:

Another 1st birthday party, from the Hostess blog a Cat in the Hat Birthday party.  There are some AMAZING photos with this one, so be sure to click through and see all the ideas! She provides sources at the end of her post.  Aren’t the Cat in the Hat Hats adorable!

Check out this cute idea for Dr. Seuss themed photo booth, from Catch my Party:  A red frame and a blue background (if you can’t find cat in the hat fabric or gift wrap) will work just fine!

The Party Wagon has some FAB photos and ideas with her Dr. Seuss party post… I love the yarn-covered bottles as centerpieces.  There are so many fabulous ideas in this post – make sure you scroll down to the end of the post to find sources!

And from Hank & Hunt, check out this SUPER EASY, but fab Lorax Cupcake for a Lorax party… Truffula Trees:

More Valentine DIY and Fun For KIDS!

If you missed it, here is the first post we wrote with DIY Valentine’s Day Projects… and I’m back again today with another round of fun ideas!  I have three kiddos with classrooms full of friends, so it’s never too early to get started on the Valentine’s Day making!  Today’s post is dedicated to KIDS’ DIY for Valentine’s Day!

First, from Repeat Crafter Me, check out these adorable Monster Push Pops!  You can bet my boys will want to make some of these – they are cute, but yet “scary” enough to pass for acceptable Valentine’s for boys.  This easy valentine crafts for kids (preschoolers too) needs just a little help from an adult.  Printables and instructions are found in Repeat Crafter Me’s post!

From Mom on Time Out comes the perfect Valentine’s Day idea for our “little” divas… Bring on the Bling Valentine Rings!

From Dandee Designs, comes a great idea for the older kiddos – friendship bracelet valentines!  THIS LINK shows you how they turned the friendship bracelets into Valentines, and includes a FREE download to use.  You can use THIS LINK or THIS LINK to learn how to MAKE a friendship bracelet:

And I have to share a second item from Repeat Crafter Me… because it can be really hard to find fun BOY ideas for Valentine’s Day, and this is just as awesome as the Monster Push Pops shown above…. Check out the Bugs and Kisses Valentines! (includes the printable bag toppers!)

What will you be making with/for your kids to take for Valentine’s Day treats?  We’d love to hear about it!  Leave us a comment, or send an email to

I found a lovely Peacock Princess Party over at Whimsical Printables, with loads of ideas for a peacock party theme.  Just check out these beautiful coffee cups…you can read the tutorial on how to make these at Giggles Galore.

The fun thing about the peacock theme is that you really can choose your favorite color and go with it.  You’ve got blues, purples, greens, and even pinks can be used together with peacock feathers.  Check out this lovely pink floral peacock centerpiece!  The only credit I can find is on pinterest, but I still had to share:

Coconut Lime Shredded Chicken Tacos

lime chicken tacos

I’ve been concentrating on desserts and appetizers but this is one entree that I couldn’t pass up sharing with.  Super easy to make and super delicious – its a great recipe to have in your repertoire.  This recipe is thanks to Traca at Eat.At.

There is so much to love about this chicken taco recipe. First – it’s a snap to make using a rotisserie chicken.  Second, thanks to the coconut, lime, cumin and cilantro it bursts with flavor (the coconut milk thickens as it heats). Third, they are delicious as leftovers if you are lucky enough to have any.

Thursday Theme – Star Wars

For the next several weeks, I’ll be doing specific theme party posts.. for kids AND adults, mostly for birthdays, but occasionally for weddings too.  How’s that for NOT specific?!  Just trying to keep my options open!

Today’s fun theme is STAR WARS!  I have two boys – almost 8 and almost 11 – and every year when January hits, it’s time for me to start birthday party plans.  BOTH boys (and their daddy) are huge star wars fans.. and it’s inevitable we’ll have SOME kind of Wookie or Jedi  involved in a party.

Kara’s Party Ideas has a FABULOUS post full of Star Wars birthday party ideas, so it’s a great place to start.  And I love all the Star Wars party food and little touches – FUN!

I found a great DIY tutorial for making light saber Star Wars invitations, from Party Ideas By A Pro.  When you click through scroll down for more super fun Star Wars food and desserts!

Another fab post, FULL of great Star Wars party ideas is from Amanda’s Parties to Go:  (be sure to check out the adorable “jedi training” photos!)  She shares lots of fun ideas for Star Wars party games

Make and Takes has even more ideas, WITH links and DIY tips for putting on a star wars party.  My boys would kill for the Death Star Pinata!

And finally… because we love Yoda, I had to include this photo of a Yoda pizza from gearfuse. How fun is this?!

Super Bowl Party Planning

My husband doesn’t watch a ton of sports overall, but he IS a huge football fan.  And this year, his team (go Broncos!) clinched the division title and are the top seeded team in the playoffs, which means… well, I have no idea what it means EXACTLY, but I do know it made my husband happy, and this put his team just that much closer to the elusive Super Bowl game.  (First they have to get through the play-off games.. this much I DO know, because he just told me so today).

So, in the expectation.. hope.. possibility of his team making it to the BIG game, I started making some plans for a Super Bowl party food (because to be a great party it has to have great food!!

First, from Make Merry, check out this awesome tutorial for making football whoopie pies.  And here’s a whoopie pie recipe from Bobby Flay with the wonderful marshmallow creme filling!

Rust and Sunshine has some GREAT ideas for throwing a super bowl party… I especially like the simple touch with the diy silverware caddies.  SO easy, and a great addition to the table or buffet.  Her football cupcakes look easy to duplicate and she even has some super bowl party games for kids.

For a yummy goodie for kids.. and BIG kids alike.. check out the football rice krispies from

Check out the fun super bowl spread put together by Shelbi Rene:

And finally.. we LOVE nachos in our house, and so when I saw these nacho CUPCAKES by Sweet Simple Stuff… I knew I’d have to make them for the big day!  She provides a step-by-step photo tutorial. You just know these are going to be a hit!

Time for Another SHOE post…

We’ve talked about shoes and shoe-themed parties HERE and HERE and HERE too!  Honestly, I can’t believe we haven’t talked about them more, but I’m going to remedy that today!  Today’s post is all about EDIBLE SHOES – how fun is that?

I found some fabulous, FABULOUS edible shoe cakes from Gayles Chocolates (mm..hmm.. FUN site):

And look at this one… a Jimmy Choo edible fondant shoe:

I found a fun little stiletto cookie cutter kit on Amazon… not sure why the photo is so small, but I see endless possibilities with this one!

And here’s another edible chocolate high heel in LEOPARD!

Talking about edible shoes – check out Diva Entertain’s offerings….  Stiletto Cookies… and Oreo Stiletto Cookies!

If you are a shoe fanatic and you aren’t a regular on Pinterest, you totally should be.  I did a search last night for “party shoes”, and look what I found!! Pages and pages of party shoes…

And finally.. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again… one of our most popular favor and party themes is the Stiletto.  You can see some of what we offer here.  Recently a customer sent us these fun photos of her stiletto cake topper:

Are YOU a shoe diva?  Planning a party with a shoe theme?  We’d love to hear about it!

Spinach & Feta Puff Pastry Appetizers

spinach appetizers

This recipe is originally from Bon Appetite and I definitely would rate it as a “keeper”.  It’s very easy to make, looks impressive as heck and tastes even better!

Purchased puff pastry and frozen chopped spinach makes this an appetizer that can be pulled together in minutes.  You can even prep the filling the night before and then fill and bake about an hour before your company arrives.
