Fresh Pear Cake with Vanilla Glaze

recipes with pears

My jaw dropped when I saw this cake.  I love pears, cake and thick glaze – especially when combined!  And this is an exceptionally moist cake thanks to the peeled and grated pear, as well as the canola oil (oil cakes tend to be very moist).

Friday FAB – FREE Silver and Gold Printables

Yesterday’s post was about Silver and Gold Wedding Anniversaries, and of course I had to make a printable for anyone who might need some silver and gold accents!  Check out the free silver and gold DIY place cards.

These silver and gold place cards are a tent-style, and they come 4 to a sheet.  There is one download for silver and one for gold – and the downloads are in a PDF format file.  Just download, print, and then cut. There is a light gray edge around each place card on the PDF, so you have a nice line for cutting.  Simply fold over where the damask and white edge meet in the middle, and you have a tent style place card or table sign.

You can use these as place cards, table signs for candy or dessert buffets, or even gift tags on a present!

Silver and Gold Anniversary Ideas

Silver and Gold anniversaries are such joyous occasions.  In this day and age, 25 and 50 years together is such an incredible achievement.. and I’ve got some great ideas to help you plan an event to celebrate!

From Celebrate Mag, a super easy idea for centerpieces.  The photo is gold gilded.. but I think you could do silver just as easily!

From The V Spot,  a super cute anniversary gift idea – also could be done in either silver or gold!  This would be great as a table accent at a party, and then a take-home for the couple

From Paisley Petal Events, an INCREDIBLE 50th Wedding Anniversary post.  Lots of eye-candy and inspiration!  Love the gilded centerpieces (see above for a link on making something like these).

From Nener’s Creations – a great 25th Wedding Anniversary post, with lots of pictures and ideas from her parents’ party!  My favorite?  The Hershey Kisses bowl!  Silver Hershey Kisses are the perfect accent for a 25th party!

Kitchen Sink Cookies

cookies with pretzels

Although Taste of Home magazine calls these Loaded-Up Cookies, I like the name “Kitchen Sink Cookies”.  I don’t think the name really matters though based on watching how fast our neighborhood kids gobbled these up!  They are salty, sweet, chewy – just all around delicious! I modified the recipe just slightly.

Best Oatmeal Raison Cookies

how to make oatmeal cookies

Ever since I discovered recipes from the Milk & Cookies Bakery cookbook, I’ve been on a ‘best of’ series.  I truly think their cookie recipes are the best in kind!  Like these oatmeal raisin cookies.  The bakery’s owner, Tina Cascelli’s, shares this incredible recipe for oatmeal cookie dough (to which I’ve added 2 cups of raisins) so that you, too, can learn how to make oatmeal cookies extraordinaire!
