Shoe Themed Party – FUN!

Today we have fun pictures from one of our happy customers from the Diva Entertains shop.  Cynthia planned a shoe themed party, and ordered a cake topper and party favors.  Here are a couple of her photos. Note that the shoes that she wore is on her left and she decorate our shoe cake topper (on right) to look just like it.  Great job Cynthia!!!:

Shoe Birthday Parties are big!  You can see ALL our the Diva Entertains shoe party favors and accessories HERE.

Thanks, Cynthia, for sharing!!

Hello Kitty Birthday Ideas

Are you a Hello Kitty fan?  My five year old daughter is totally enthralled with everything Kitty… and even though her “Fairy Princess Ballerina” birthday party was just a couple of weeks ago, she is ALREADY planning NEXT year’s birthday party… Hello Kitty style.  Here are a few fun Hello Kitty birthday ideas and favors I found when I did a quick search.

Easy to make Hello Kitty cupcakes, from Annie’s Eats.  The recipe calls for fondant which is way easier than you think.  Click here for a fabulous, easy and delicious Marshmallow Fondant:
Super cute Hello Kitty name tags (and other cute ideas too!), from House of Kitty blog:.
I love, love, LOVE the styling on this Hello Kitty party, on Catch My Party.  There are tons of great photos in the album, but this one is my favorite.  But make through you scroll through all 32 Hello Kitty party pictures – it will spark great ideas for YOUR party!:
The colors and designs from this party on The Cake Blog are so fun… and I especially love the brown craft boxes with Hello Kitty faces:
Yes, I think we’ll be able to find PLENTY of fun ideas for Martha’s next party… 11 months from now!

Fabulous and Fifty – Birthday DIY

One of our more popular posts is the DIY 40th Birthday post.  All of the ideas really could be adapted for any age, but I thought I’d write ANOTHER post, this time focusing on the FABULOUS 50!

One place to start for planning a birthday bash is the “What Happened in my Birth Year” site.   This site is fun!  I entered 1962, and got some fun into about movies and events from that year. “50 Years of Changes” would be fun for a theme!  Interestingly enough… glitter high heel shoes were almost as popular in 1962 as they are today!  And a gold 50th birthday is a popular birthday theme.

To find some FAB FIFTY cake ideas, simply go to Google Images, and type in “gold 50th birthday cake”.  Lots and lots and LOTS of great cake images will show up. Find one or two that you love, and print to take to your local bakery.  Most bakeries will be happy to use your inspiration photos to help create a cake for you.  Of course if it isn’t gold that you are into, just take in “50th birthday cake”.  Looking for a “50th birthday cake for men”?  Put that in the Google Images search bar!

Another option for dessert is brownie pops.  Check out these fabulous GOLD (and silver) brownie pops from {The Roche Shop}.  You can easily make them yourself by frosting brownie pops and then roll them in edible glitter.  Sound too difficult – no worries! Just make a pan of browns, frost them and then sprinkle them with edible gold glitter or lustre (look in any craft store baking aisle)!

A party isn’t complete without decorations and banners.  How about a gold glitter birthday banner?  Check out Everyday Ebullience and Creature Comforts for great examples (and a DIY) on making a fun glitter banner:

Gold, glitz, glamour… perfect for a Fab Fifty birthday party!

The MANLY birthday party

I discovered something recently… there are very FEW male birthday party ideas out there.  Apparently our male counterparts aren’t as interested in theme parties or “frou-frou”.  Who knew?  (snicker, snicker)

So.. what I did find?  I’m sharing today!

Like this adorable… er, totally masculine “bbq cake”, from Scissors and Spatulas.  What a FUN idea for an outdoor weekend birthday party.   And the great thing is that this cake is surprisingly easy to make.  TRULY!  Those hamburgers are actually rice cakes sprayed with red food coloring.  Read the post to learn how to make one yourself for your manly man!

I was able to find a great example of a dessert table for the man in your life, from Kara’s Party Ideas.  Can’t go wrong with browns and oranges!

This gallery from Hostess with the Mostess is for a 2 year old fishing birthday party, but I think it could totally be re-worked for the fisherman in your life.  She has some great ideas that are sure to spur your own.  For Diva Entertains – we thought “Fish Cupcakes” would be fun and found these wonderful, colorful, edible fish decorations to put on top of homemade (or store bought) cupcakes:

The next two are cake inspiration, not how-tos.  But if you really like the look, print off a picture and take it to a bakery to see if they can create.

I found several “handyman” type cakes…which could be a good theme, if your guy is a handy fellow.  Love this tool belt cake from the Sugar Syndicate.  Take time to look through their portfolio of cakes – so many great ideas!

And how about combining everything a guy loves into a theme or cake?  Check out this topsy turvy cake from the Pink Cake BoxEven if Golf, Nascar and Palm Trees aren’t your guy’s favs – create one that incorporates those that are!  I love a topsy turvy cake and they seem to be the rage at most bakeries these days:

Bug Theme Party and Easy Butterfly Cupcake Toppers

Bugs are popular with the younger set… it’s just a fact.  Both boys AND girls love the buggy themes – gross, “icky” bugs for boys… and sweet ladybugs and butterflies for girls!  For your next kiddo (or adult!) party, check out all the buggy ideas and inspiration!

Let’s start with the GIRLS!  Here is a fab tutorial for making cute ladybug party decorations, from the hostessblog.com.  These are really easy to make!:

One of the BEST ladybug party posts I’ve seen can be found at bee in our bonnet;  make sure you click through to it for wonderful lady bug party pictures and inspiration.  My favorite, FAVORITE idea from this post?  These adorable ladybug pretzels made using colored candy melts found at every craft store in the baking aisle.:

I mentioned butterflies, didn’t I?  Well, if you are planning a butterfly theme party, you need to check out this tutorial for making butterfly cupcake toppers.  A-DOR-ABLE!  Everything needed to make these can be found at craft stores.  (don’t forget to print out a coupon when purchasing the butterfly punch.)

And now.. for the BOYS!  I found a ton of links and inspirations for “icky” bug party theme ideas.  This corn dog centipede was one of my favorites.  Check out the Hungry Happenings blog to get details on how to make these:

From Creative Juice, a tutorial on making bug party favor sticks AND skewer stand FOR the favor sticks.  They also show how to make a DIY cake pop stand (used her for the party sticks) by covering floral foam with decorative paper.  I do this all the time!

From Oh Goodie Designs, check out the “best bug party EVER” post, with tons and tons of photos for bug party inspiration.  I can’t quite decide on a favorite idea, but if I HAD to pick, it would probably be the worm holes and ants-on-a-stick goodies.  CUTE, CUTE!

And you simply can’t have a BUG party without a DIRT cake!  Check out this post from Cookie Mondays, about her son’s Bug Party in the Park.  FABULOUS fun ideas, and a yummy (?) looking Dirt-N-Worms Cake!

Featured Customer – Petula’s 40th Birthday!

DIY Birthday – for the BIG kids

And by big kids, I mean the ADULTS!

I’m planning a 40th birthday party and I’ve been looking for fun DIY birthday decorations and party themes that don’t involve “over the hill” or black balloons.  Thankfully, I’ve found a LOT of inspiration out there!

From Sweet Scarlet, a Paris Theme Birthday.  You can get the very inexpensive party printables in Sweet Scarlet’s etsy shop.

More party inspiration and ideas, from Kara’s Party Ideas, a gorgeous houndstooth inspired 40th Birthday Party theme:

If you love the idea of printables, but are looking for a different design, check out Printables By Amy, and the Tiffany Party Theme Pack:

We have a Tiffany Favors category in our Diva Entertains shop too!

Now, I can’t decide if I want a sophisticated glam theme… or a more FIESTA party theme.  For the latter, I’ve bookmarked this fabulous Fiesta 40th Birthday post on the Hostess Blog:

And I found this paper flower bouquet tutorial for Flirty Fiesta Flowers, from Aesthetic Nest:

Now… just in case I decide to go ALL OUT GLAM for this party I’m planning, I’ve marked this Zebra birthday cake as inspiration:

AND… this Bold Zebra + Tiffany Blue inspired party post. Isn’t this a gorgeous Zebra fondant cake.  Want to have this cake (or a very similar one) for your party?  Print out this picture and take it to your bakery and ask them to recreate! (I do this all the time):

I’m ready to PARTY, aren’t you?

December Parties for Kids (and kids at heart)

Anyone who has a December birthday (or early January, even) has experienced their birthday being overshadowed by the holiday season.  It’s not always easy to plan birthday parties in the midst of all the hooplah.  But today we thought it might be fun to highlight a few December party ideas… with ways to incorporate the holidays WITH the birthday.  (Of course – these are also great kids Christmas party ideas too:)

(And if you don’t have any birthday parties to plan, you can STILL use the ideas shown today for your holiday party!)

The links below are just INSPIRATION links.. no tutorials today, but rather just IDEAS to help you design your own party theme!

First up, a Hot Cocoa party theme, from the Hostess With the Mostess Blog.  Be sure to CLICK OVER to see ALL the fab photos:

How about a  Christmas Candyland Theme party, from Celebrations at Home.  Yes, it’s a holiday party idea, BUT it could be adapted as a CandyLand Birthday party theme!  Again, CLICK OVER to see more photos:

Another fab idea from the Hostess with the Mostess blog – a vintage Rudolph themed party.  I know, I know… it’s a holiday party again, but my kids LOVE Rudolph, and what a fun theme for a birthday party!  Once again, CLICK OVER to see twelve different photos:

Now, this next link isn’t for a party theme gallery, but rather a super cute cake pan for the railroad fan that you can purchase from Williams-Sonoma.  (My boys would FLIP over a “cake” like this!) Can you image the joy on a child’s face when they see this train birthday cake?  The cake pan makes NINE different little train car cakes, and you can decorate them… for the holidays, for a birthday, for… FUN!

And one LAST Hostess with the Mostess gallery link… another “candy-land” theme that could be easily adapted for a birthday, if you replaced the Christmas gingerbread with “candy land” gingerbread figures, and added in a few sugar plum fairies and more lollipops!

Do you have any unique ideas for December/January birthdays?  Feel free to post a comment and let us know!

Fall Birthday Party Ideas for Kids

Way, WAY back in the day, I was a fall baby… and so was my younger brother.  Through the years, my mother planned quite a few fall birthday parties.  Searching for inspiration for today’s post brought it all flooding back!

First up… the PUMPKIN cake!

Here is a quick recipe for a pumpkin shaped cake:

But, maybe that isn’t quite pumpkin-y enough?  How about this one, from Stonewall Kitchen?

AND… look what I found!  A pumpkin shaped  cake pan set from amazon:

So… fall party pumpkin cake, check.

On to goodie bags and favors!  An adorable owl goodie bag, from babble.com:

How about some OWL S’mores… OH yea!  (from The Savvy Moms Guide, who, by the way, has quite a few fun ideas for a Thanksgiving theme party):

For tons of inspiration, I recently found (and fell in love with) Hostess with the Mostess.  One of the features that I can’t get enough of is the photo album section – party planners (and moms) can upload their party photos into albums for all to see!  When searching, I found this ADORABLE Rustic Fall party album.  Check out the fun (and funny!) “rotten pumpkin teeth” goodie bags:

And you simply MUST LOOK at all the photos from this elegant Halloween or Thanksgiving party album (again, from Hostess with the Mostess) including the stunning autumn cake below:

I’m so inspired to have a fall party… it’s just too bad my kids’ birthdays are in March and April!
