Lemon Mousse – Refreshing and Light Tasting!

lemon desserts recipe

We are lovers of lemons in our family!  I cook and bake with them constantly..

Lately I’ve been on the lookout for great lemon dessert recipes and I came across this one from Ina Garten.  Just like the reviews stated – it was fab! Light, bright and refreshing.  Ina puts it all in a big bowl to serve but I chose to serve it in individual glasses.

Oh – and if you want to see Ina make it – here’s her short (3 minutes) video demonstrating it.

Fun Summer Cookies

It’s been at least a week or two since I featured cookies, and you know how much I LOVE to show off fun cookies.  Today, I thought I’d spotlight some summer themed designs.

From Whisk This,  super easy AND cute watermelon cookies… even *I* could make these!  You’ll just need some food coloring for the pink, green and black.  Although we think mini chocolate chips would make great ‘seeds’ too!

From Family Fun, a cute cookie for the beach or ocean theme party… oyster pearl cookies! Most any round cookie will do but if can one with a bit of a design like the ones below – all the better!

From Amy Atlas, a FAAAAAAB summer cookie tutorial… with lemon and lime slices, and even a glass of lemonade…cookie style!

Now, this next post from Sweetopia is for the die-hard cookie decorators out there… it has some sweet summer cookie inspiration for the novices, and GREAT, GREAT tips on avoiding spots on icing.

And finally, from Glorious Treats… a lovely DIY on designing Hibiscus Flower cookies. Perfect for the summer Hawaii theme party!

Summer Baby Shower Themes and Ideas

I have some super, super sweet baby shower ideas for you today.  Beaches, books, and BRIGHT colors are what these themes are all about…

From Aesthetic Nest comes some FABULOUS inspiration with a Golden Book Baby Shower theme.  These vintage books are easy to find in used-book stores, and what a perfect palate for a party!

Another great BOOK theme idea comes from Martha Stewart.  How about throwing a Mother Goose baby shower, with recipes like Mary Quite Contrary Garden Salad, Peter Piper Pickled PrawnsLittle Boy Blueberry Scones, and Miss Muffet’s Lemon Curd. I recommend setting out a menu card (or menu cards at each item if served buffet) since the recipe names are so cute!

And how about those BEACH baby showers?  Check out the fun ideas from the Hostess blog, with favors, centerpieces and food ideas!  You’ll want to read her entire post because she has fabulous, low cost ideas!

And going along with that, check out this INCREDIBLE sand castle baby shower cake from CakeCentral.com:  It actually isn’t that hard to make yourself (although a bakery could do it easily) – the cake contains two different size cake layers.  The sand can be made from crushed graham crackers (I like crushed Captain Crunch cereal too).  And flip flop cookie cutters can be purchased at most baking stores and online.

And one last inspiration for you, from Pizzazzerie… a preppy pink beach baby shower:  I just loved the hot pink with lime green!

What are your inspirations this summer?  We’d love to hear about them!

Summer Craft Activities for Kids

In our household, the words “I’m bored” are not allowed.  I’m harsh like that.  BUT, my kids also know that there are PLENTY of options for fun and games and crafts around our house.

And if we run out of ideas, we know where to go!  Our local craft shops ALWAYS have classes and kids’ camps that are perfect for learning new skills and trying new things.

If you are looking for fun with the kids this summer, check out JOANNS.COM and their “Kids’ Camp”… browse through projects and classes, and get your kids signed up today!  Sewing classes, cake decorating, crochet, jewelery making – you name it, they’ve got it!  And, there are also LOTS of great options for Moms (and Dads and Grandmas…) too!

Michaels Craft Classes for Kids is another great option for classes and events. Cake decorating, painting, bracelet making… my kids can’t decide WHICH class they want to try most!

Do you have a Hobby Lobby in your area?  Well, Hobby Lobby has a ton of great Project Inspiration ideas on their website.  You can browse through fun project ideas, and get a list of supplies needed, and GET BUSY!

And if you don’t live near any of the the three shops listed above, don’t worry!  Craft and fun project ideas are only a google search away!  Type in “Summer Crafts for Kids”, and you’ll be SET!

Happy crafting!!

End of School Year and Summer Pool Party Ideas

It’s so close to summer break that my kids can almost taste it!  And you can bet they are already planning their ENTIRE summer, complete with pool parties and water parks and running through the sprinklers.  (Hey, it gets to 118 degrees here in Vegas… most of our summer plans include WATER!)

Since it’s a big topic of conversation in our house, the kids and I looked last night for some fun pool party /end of school year party ideas, and I have some fun inspiration to share with you today!

First up, from Kara’s Party Ideas blog, a FUN summer party rainbow theme. Click through for an amazing rainbow themed party!  I’m especially loving the fruit kabobs.  And I think rainbows work perfectly with water-themed parties, don’t you??

And if ice cream is important to your summer party (OF COURSE, it is), check out this fun “Last Day of School Ice Cream Party” idea from Mirabelle Creations. It would be wonderful at a pool party too.  The secret to this party’s success is the beautiful display of delicious and fun toppings!

This next hot dog party theme could be used for some MANY different summer parties… birthdays, end of school year, 4th of July.  Lots and lots of inspiration in the photos from this one, from the Hostess blog:

And just LOOK at these adorable beach party cupcakes!  From celebrate-it.com:

And finally, from the CAKE events blog, some great inspiration and tips for a “fishy” pool party theme.  My kids LOVE this one…

How will YOU be celebrating the end of the school year?  Do you have special plans for your summer parties?  We’d love to hear about your ideas!

Nothing says “Summer” more than burgers on the grill, and I a “build your own burger bar” would be a fun idea for a small backyard barbeque wedding.  Check it out on Homemade Simple.com:

And the last one for today… another post from Ruffled.  This time, an eco-friendly, natural wedding decor and inspiration post.  I just love the clean look of these photos, and I can imagine all kinds of different parties using this kind of theme.
