Last Minute Thanksgiving Fun Food Ideas!

This is a VERY busy week for hostesses all over the United States!  I am personally cooking TWO turkeys this week, along with ALL the traditional fixin’s for Thursday’s big feast day.  I’ve made lists and more lists to keep myself organized, and in between making lists, I’ve browsed for ideas for making our holiday fun and unique! I was thinking mostly about foods my kids would enjoy (or could help with the making), but these ideas are great for “kids” of ALL ages!

From Living Locurto, some SUPER FUN  Thanksgiving veggie tray ideas for the holidays:

From 7th House on the Left, she teaches how to make turkey cookies (adorable, no bake!):

From Dash Recipes, check out these teepees!!

And from Woman’s Day, super cute pilgrim hat cookies!

Thinking Ahead to Thanksgiving

We plan to have a few Thanksgiving posts over the next couple of weeks… today is the first, with some fun ideas for decor, Thanksgiving table decorations, and overall thanksgiving thankfulness!

First up, from Jeanne Winters, a lovely post about creating gratitude… with a very simple, but elegant place-setting idea – writing names on leaves!  These free, homemade Thanksgiving place cards will definitely grace our table this year.

And here’s a terrific and easy Thanksgiving decoration crafts;  bottle “word art” tutorial from Choose To Thrive.  This can be done so many ways, and with various words – Fall, Thanks, your family name…Here they use a Silhouette machine (we just gave one a way a few weeks back!) to cut out vinyl letters but you could easily paint them on, or buy letters in various materials (felt, wood, etc.) from craft stores.

Here’s another great Thanksgiving craft for adults or children!  Click on over to Nest of Posies for a great DIY tutorial on using an old tin and chalkboard paint to make a fab menu board!

For a super simple, inexpensive, but totally unique decoration, why not try making a cornhusk pom!  Centsational Girl has a great post with three easy crafts for fall, including this pom.  And wait until you see her elegant clothespin place card holders!

And finally, from A Diamond in the Stuff, a Give Thanks Mantel, to inspire (or copy) If you like decorating with pumpkins like I do, this could become a new seasonal favorite!

DIY Fall Wreaths

You know what we haven’t talked about yet this season?  Wreaths!!  It’s time to look at a few DIY/How-To wreath posts, I think!  I’ll focus on Christmas and holiday wreaths later, but today’s are all fall/autumn/thankgiving oriented!

So, the first thing I noticed when looking at fall wreath ideas this year is that BURLAP is IN!  You can find a lot of great varieties out there if you google burlap and fall wreath.  This how to make burlap wreaths tutorial from Craftaholics Anonymous, is my favorite:

For a fab Williams and Sonoma wreath knock-off DIY post, check out 320 Sycamore do it yourself wreath!:

You can get inspiration and instruction for  TWENTY fall wreaths to make, over at babble.com: Scroll through all the picks on the site and then click into the ones you are interested in!

From Makely School for Girls, get DIY instrucations for an ADORABLE owl wreath.  Owls are HUGE (just like burlap) this year:

And last, but not least, I have a yarn wreath tutorial for you, from Tiny Prints.  Yarn-wrap wreaths are almost as BIG as burlap wreaths this year!
