Theme Thursday – Shabby Chic Garden Party

I’m going super specific with today’s Theme Thursday post… specifically shabby chic… and garden or tea parties!  When thinking about shabby chic and garden parties and tea parties, we are looking at LOTS and lots of pastels, flowers, and loveliness. Can’t wait to share what I’ve found!
From Kara’s Party, a shabby chic tea party baby shower – lots of FABULOUS ideas for sweet, pink, and shabby chic! Serving cupcakes in vintage tea cups is a beautiful presentation.  And who would have thought that big rosettes (easy to do) would look so amazing on a cake?

Theme Thursday – Thinking about 2013 Weddings!

I don’t have a specific theme for today, but rather some general info for getting started with your wedding and reception plans for 2013!  Some of these topics we will discuss in more detail in the coming weeks (like the colors listed below), but for now, here’s a “quick start” to 2013 wedding planning!

Wedding Colors:

According to a couple of wedding trends websites I’ve visited recently, some of the most popular wedding colors for 2013 will be aqua, tangerine, lilac, mustard, antique blue, deep red, latte, lavender, charcoal, and sage.  What do you think?

Wedding Themes:

Traditional church weddings still exist of course, but more and more it seems that couples are choosing “theme” weddings.  Destinations like Hawaii and Mexico seem to be HUGELY popular… outdoor, folksy weddings… vintage and shabby chic (also usually outdoors)…. Las Vegas (of course).  Check out this video from Martha Stewart – she and her Darcy Miller share some lovely trends and ideas. (you’ll have to bear through a 30 second advertisement first).  She also is offering a destination wedding sweepstakes!

Wedding DIY:

Here at Diva Entertains we talk A LOT about DIY (or do-it-yourself).  All of our posts are chock-full of DIY ideas for parties and entertainment.  Over the last few months, the best place to go to find wedding DIY is Pinterest.  We have set up Pinterest boards with links to recipes, DIY ideas, themes, and just plain fun stuff.  If you aren’t on Pinterest, you should be!  You can follow Diva Entertains by clicking HERE…. and click on over to see the latest “pins” under “wedding, diy”:

Wedding Favors:

We love wedding favors – designing them, making them, selling them, sharing them.  It is a wonderful feeling to be a part of a bride’s special day, and we have some AMAZING favors in our Diva Entertains shop.  We try not to be blatant with “selling” our own goods here on the DE blog, but if you are looking for niche favors, theme favors, specific color favors – well, we have them!

Click on over and see what you can find!

Theme Thursday – Blue and White

It’s time for another Theme Thursday, and today I’ve chosen blue and white themes… these colors together make a wonderful backdrop for winter weddings and events.

From Bentley Meeker comes an incredible display of blue and white.  I especially love the trees as decor.  If you want LOTS of eye-candy, you have to spend some time on their site.

From Blissique, a BEAUTIFUL blue and white bridal shower, with some fab ideas for decorating and favors.  I love the little bits of blue surrounded by white.  So lovely and easy to do!  Perfect for a blue and white baby shower too!

How about decorating with branches?  They make such a fabulous touch, and they really aren’t that hard to make!  Check out Save-On-Crafts for the tutorial:

And finally, from the Hostess blog, check out this FAB gallery of Winter Wonderland in blues and whites.  Included in the post are several links to DIY tutorials, so you can re-create a look like this for YOUR event.

Thursday Themes – GREEN and PINK

A Pink and Green party or shower theme is classic, stylish… and simply lovely.  Here are some ideas of how to do “Green and Pink” well.

From Thoughtfully Simple, an oh so cute Turtle Party… in greens and pinks! It’s amazing how little touches like pink lemonade, pink or green cupcake liners, etc. can have such big impact.  For the very affordable party printables shown in her post, Click Here

Check out these adorable, homemade pink and green favors, from Elle Belle Creative, and her pink and green shower:

We talked about Stripes and Polka Dots yesterday, but I saved this post from Mummy’s Little Dreams for today’s post.  The first photo shows the perfect combination of greens and pinks… and polka dots!  You’ll love all the fabulous photos!

Click on over to Tastefully Entertaining to check out the Pink and Green Whale party.  Such a cute idea, especially the rubber boots!  Isn’t this pink and green birthday cake gorgeous?

Check out the pink and green OVERLOAD from Catch My Party.  You can purchase, download and print your own green and party decorations and accessories!

And finally, from our own Diva Entertains shop, we have some adorable Gerber Daisy Favor boxes in pinks and greens:

Theme Thursday – Orange and Black

We are continuing our new Theme Thursday series this week with… Orange and Black… partly because of upcoming Halloween parties, but also because the two colors together can make a stunning theme.  Whether you are planning a Halloween party, a bridal shower, or a themed wedding, I have lots of Orange and Black for you today!

First, from CakesDecor.com – a jaw-dropping Black Damask and Orange theme cake (and she has stenciling AND pleating tutorials for the cake decorators out there!):

I think black damask and orange go PERFECTLY together, and here is a second example in the cake department, from The Couture Cakery:

Want to find more FABULOUS pictures of orange and black cakes? Go to Google.com/Images and type in (for example):

  • orange and black cakes (or wedding cakes)
  • orange and black cupcakes (if that’s of interest to you)

What about centerpieces?  I found a fun FREE printable from Living Locurto – she has several free designs that are geared towards Halloween parties, but I think this one would be perfect for a shower or even a wedding reception.  Included in the post are very detailed instructions for designing a lovely orange and black tablescape.

From Brooklyn Bride, a modern tablescape in orange and black!  Great inspiration, with a list of materials used at the end of the post:

Interested in see more orange and black centerpieces and table settings?  Once again go to Google.com/Images and type in (for example):

  • Orange Centerpieces
  • Black Centerpieces
  • Orange and Black Centerpieces
  • Orange Bouquets (for inspiration:)

Stepping away from weddings for just a minute… I found this adorable styled 1st birthday party post on The Tom Kat studio blog – it includes pink, but I just couldn’t NOT share it.  It’s a good example of orange and black AND pink. 🙂

What do YOU think about Orange and Black as a theme?  We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Theme Thursday – Red and White Weddings & Parties

We started a new series last week, called Theme Thursday, with a tribute to yellow and gray.  THIS week we are celebrating Red and White together.  Birthday parties, bridal showers, and even weddings – red and white as a theme is hot, hot HOT!

To get us started off with a bang, check out this post from the Ruffled blog – a vintage red and white and black wedding:

And Pacific Weddings shares an INCREDIBLE red and white butterfly theme wedding… scroll through the photos and read their description of how this was styled.  The red bridal bouquet is gorgeous and the little touches of black and red throughout the celebration are knock-out!

I know we haven’t even gotten through Halloween yet, but it’s never too early to start thinking about the Christmas and winter holidays.  From the Hostess blog, a lovely and joyful red and white holiday tablescape for inspiration:

I went back to Living Locurto once again, because she has fabulous printables for $15.95 that are so gorgeous, I had to share!

And finally, from Kara’s Party Ideas, a lovely red and white bridal shower.  Lots of great ideas for pulling reds and whites together… love it!

For more fab pictures and inspiration for red and white parties, go to Google.com/Images and type in, for example:

  • red and white wedding cakes (or ‘red and white cakes’)
  • red and white decorations
  • red and white bouquet

What other ways could you use reds and whites together?  We’d love to hear your ideas!

Thrifty Thursday – Halloween Decorating

The other day a friend asked me if I was all ready for Halloween, and if I was done decorating.  And then she launched into a story about how she and her husband use the Halloween pumpkin decorations for both Halloween AND Thanksgiving by simply turning the jack-o-lanterns around after the 31st.  Apparently besides all the pumpkins they use INSIDE, they also have a 5 foot jack-o-lantern that sits outside… with his toothy grin showing until the day after Halloween… and then he sits backwards through Thanksgiving.

I blinked a few times as she spoke, and realized (quietly in my own head)… I don’t really do that well when it comes to decorating OR preparing for Halloween.

In an effort to do a better job THIS year, I’ve been scouring the Internet and bloggy world and Pinterest, looking for cute… inexpensive… easy… ideas!

You want to see what I found, right?

From HGTV.com, a tutorial on how to make these adorable peek-a-book pumpkins:

Table of Treats idea, from Gordon Gossip.  She used a photo from Good Housekeeping as an inspiration, and explains how to re-create it!

Monogram Pumpkin Tutorial, from the Butlers blog.  We have been painting pumpkins pink around here, but I think I’m just as in love with these white monogrammed pumpkins.

Halloween Flowers, from One Charming Party.  Talk about a fabulous look!  She details the individual flower arrangements, so be sure to click through to see more!

And as I look back through these photos (and the other links I bookmarked but didn’t share), I realize I’m a white and black Halloween kind of girl.  Over half of my links show classy black-and-white decorations! Maybe next week I’ll share the few COLORFUL Halloween decorating ideas I found.

What are YOU doing to decorate for Halloween this year?

Thrifty Thursday – Hurricane Vases

I also found a blog post by my blessed life.  She shares a fabulous tutorial on how to make these hurricane vases. (You’ll have to click on over to see her photos – they are worth the click!)

And two twenty one has a twist on the same idea – hurricane vases with split peas!  Yes, you want to go see… you know you do!
